Yesterday Was Christmas --by Andrew Beard

The writer for today is my husband Andrew.

It's true. Christmas has come and gone again. That one day never seems long enough. The food that took hours to prepare took a matter of minutes to consume. The presents bought and wrapped are torn open in seconds. I remember as a kid the anticipation leading up to Christmas. The excitement of Christmas morning, the all-day festivities. At our house the afternoons would consist of working puzzles, playing games, and figuring out whatever new toy we had received. This year I have a son who can unwrap his own gifts and so now I have a whole new reason to be excited for Christmas. Yet as I sit here on the day after Christmas, there is one inescapable fact -- Christmas is over and done.

I find myself wondering if I made the most of it and whether it could have been made to last just a little bit longer. I am reminded that Jesus, my King, cannot be relegated to one day, neither the anticipation of his coming, nor his birth, nor his life and death, nor the ever-present reality of his kingship over earth and heaven and me. All the best things about Christmas are just as true today as I take down Christmas decorations and clean up the house and put away the memories of yesterday for safe keeping. One day is not enough to contain my excitement and my joy at the fact that Christ voluntarily came into our rebellious mess and carried out the Father's master plan to save us sinners in our miserable and unlovely condition. My still greater joy is that the Lord invites me to know him today and tomorrow and for the rest of eternity because of this Christ. So I give a little sigh of relief knowing that Christmas has been made much more than a little bit longer by the King of Christmas, the Christ himself -- Jesus.
