I love Christmas and even though I am not much of a decorator I enjoy pulling out the Christmas decorations and sprucing up my house this one time a year. When we move my regular decorations take up one box but my Christmas decoration take up four!! And we haven't even bothered opening the regular box these last few moves so when you are used to bare white walls every Christmas decoration seems special. But this year I have an extra special decoration!
In past years a favourite has been this Santa:
He stands almost 2 feet tall and was bought in 2003 at a Christmas fair while we lived in North Carolina. I think he is a perfect-looking Santa and the Santa in our movie Summertime Christmas reflects our taste, I think.
Another favourite decoration is our sleigh full of Christmas ornaments with characteristics of God written on them.
My mom gave us the Christmas balls with the words on them when we were first married and a few years later we found the sleigh and even later the reindeer.
But my favourite decoration this year is extra special because my 3 year old son made it. We have been looking everywhere for a topper for our Christmas tree and couldn't find anything that we thought fit our tree and our home. At Sunday School this past Sunday my little boy made a paper angel and a few days after he made it, after coming home from the store topper-less, he said, "Why don't we use my angel? It has a hole in the bottom of it." I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it! It is perfection itself! Nothing any store sells could compare with my little boy's homemade angel.
The best part of this story is that we have just started a new Christmas tradition at our house and we weren't even looking for it! Each year from now on we want the tree topper to be made by our kids. What else could fit our tree and our home better than that?
