Esther: Today I thought we would talk about the "sounds of Christmas" (aka Christmas music!)
Maude: I'm listening to some right now!
Lizzi: Yay!
Esther: Me too Maude!
Maude: I separatey Christian and contemporary
Lizzi: Probably 'O Holy Night'
Maude: Do you want both or just one?
Esther: Either Hymn or fun/funny song (or you can list two separate ones if you want)
Lets make it a two part question
-hymn (christian)
Lizzi: 'O Holy Night'
Maude: My favourite Christian one is "O Holy Night" too Liz! My favourite secular one is "Have Yourslf a Merry Little Christmas"
Esther: and fun, contemporary song
Lizzi: I like 'I'll be Home for Christmas' though it's not really "fun" I guess
Esther: I love "What child is this" and "joy to the world"
Maude: Both of those are Christian Es
Lizzi: I think she couldn't just pick one
Esther: or "O come oh come Emmanuel"
Maude: Oh.
Esther: know! I just can't decide!
Maude: Oh.
Esther: know! I just can't decide!
Lizzi: Those ARE all good too!
Esther: I haven't even if gotten to my none hymns yet!
Maude: My second are It Came Upon A Midnight Clear and SilverBells
Lizzi: Oh!! I forgot!
I LOVE 'Welcome to our World' by chris Rice
Best
Maude: Never heard of it!
Lizzi: Well, it's hard to say best, but...
It is amazing
I've sang it!
You've probably heard it sometime, right?
Maude: Heehee!!! You said that funny!
"You've sang it." Hasn't everyone sung their favourite Christmas song?
Lizzi: Did it sound like Iwas saying I'M amazing?
Uh oh
oh! haha
Esther: I love "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas"
Maude: You meant "performed it"
right?
Lizzi: yes
Esther: though I have become very found of "Frank the Christmas Turkey"
Lizzi: I like 'I Saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus' too. On the silly side
Maude: I'm sure it was beautiful Liz. (or fun - not sure what type of song it is) but I know you were boasting!
Lizzi: haha
Maude: Grandma Got Run Over By aReindeer - classic
Lizzi: I've never heard the Christmas turkey song, Es
Maude: And James Penguin by Brad Paisley
I didn'tget tohear it at Thanksgiving when you shared it Es
Esther: Me too!
Liz, you have to check it out
sooo funny
Oh, Maude stinky
you'd really like it
Ready for the next question?
Maude: Sure
Lizzi: Uh huh
Esther: In your opinion, who (or what) is the "voice of Christmas"?
Lizzi: ??
Maude: Bing
of course!!
Lizzi: Oh, you mean like a singer?
I was thinking of some kind of narrator. Haha
Maude: Wait! Were we supposed to say God?
Did I just flunk Sunday School?
It sounds like you were expecting something more "spiritual" heehee!
Lizzi: I know! Funny!
Esther: No I meant singer!
haha
Maude: The VOICE of Christmas
I like Bing Crosby best
Lizzi: I was trying to think of some baritone in my head...
Esther: I would say Bing too!
Lizzi: Ummm
Maude: But I just watched a video of Elvis singing "Blue Christmas"
And since Elvis was sucha HUGE fan of Christmas that means a lot I think
Lizzi: This is weird, but what about Kenny G?
Er, his sax?
Esther: What is some new Christmas favorites you have?
Maude: Not Kenny G's voice!! haha!
New songs or singers?
Esther: Maude have you ever listened to Dan Fogelbergs Christmas stuff?
both
either
Maude: Nope
Esther: I love it
Maude: Besides "Same Auld Lang Syne" of course
Lizzi: I hear songs I like, but I usually don't know the name
Maude: I do love his stuff - wouldn't exactly call that new...
Esther: That and Sufjan Stevans has my new favorite Christmas stuff to listen too
Lizzi: Oh! Daniel and I LOVE Andrea Bocelli's christmas cd
Maude: Mary Did You Know
My husband sings that alot
Andrea Bocelli is great too
Lizzi: His voice is so beautiful
Esther: What is a memory you have of a Christmas song/music?
Maude: Christmas Caroling as a family.
Silent Night and all the songs we sang
Lizzi: I thought you were going to say you being in charge of the music christmas morning!
Maude: That too!
Esther:
Lizzi: Yeah, I loved caroling
Maude: Also, how Dad had a verse of Up On The Housetop for each of the kids and he would sing it on the way home from Thanksgiving and while we were driving to look at Christmas lights
Lizzi: Hmmm. I think I vaguely remember that
Esther: I was thinking about that just the other day Maude!
I remeber it Liz!
Lizzi: I'm so glad you do, Es!!
Maude: I have a verse for both of my kids
I'm surprised you do Es!!
That was a LONG time ago!
Esther: I would say dancing around to Christmas music
Now or when I was little
I love dancing to "Jingle bell rock"
always have!
Maude: Baking as we listen to the Disney Christmas Music tape
Mom hated that tape
Lizzi: Yeah
And I can just see Esther with all of the ribbons and bows in her hair dancing around!
Maude: Funny that she likes it better now because of the memories associated with it
Lizzi: That is funny
Maude: I can see that too!
Esther:
Yes I still may on occasion do such things
Lizzi: haha
Maude: On occasion? I'd be surprised if you weren'tdancing a little right now
Esther: Last question: What is the Christmas song you and your family find yourself singing the most?
Maude: With somthing bright in your hair to!
Esther: well I have danced quite a bit this morning !
Lizzi: by the way, Maude, whenever I hear the 12 days of Christmas, I always want to sing it the disney way!
haha
Sing the most?
Hmmm
Maude: Jingle Bells!! We used to have to sing it to Milton each night before he went to bed - it was one of the first words we decifered when he began to talk. So he knows all the words now so it is nice to sing together
Lizzi: Maybe Winter Wonderland or Jingle Bells
Maude: I sing 12 Days of Christmas that way too, Lizzi!
Jingle Bell Rock too - the good ones to dance to
Maude: deciphered *what on earth was I thinking??!!
Esther: I sing "joy to the world" and Jingle bell rock too
Lizzi: Yeah, Joy to the World is very bright and cheery
Esther: and "white Christmas" because I am dreaming of a white Christmas
Lizzi: yeah!
Esther: but it is pretty doubtful I'll get one
Maude: We sing all the songs from "White Christms" and "HOliday Inn"
Me neither!!!
Esther: I guess it is pretty unlikely any of us will!
Maude: Stinky!
It is finally getting down to the 40s here. Just barely
