At fourteen weeks pregnant (14 1/2 to be exact) I would think I would be done with throwing up. Let me start at the beginning. I found out I was pregnant 3 days after my 1st anniversary. My husband and I were so excited! I was driving to visit family the next day and knew it would be so hard to keep it a secret... thankfully, I was able to keep it under wraps. Then, less than a week after getting back home I started experiencing one of the joys of pregnancy - morning sickness (maybe more aptly named "all-day sickness"). On average, I was throwing up every other day, sometimes more. Where was the joy of pregnancy? The glow? I had always looked forward to being pregnant, thinking how cute pregnant women always looked. I never thought much about the exhaustion, being nauseated, feeling sore and all other sorts of things - and all this in just the first few weeks!
The good news I received at 10 weeks made all that throwing up worth it. My midwife, after finding the heartbeat and commenting how strong it was, said that with the strong heartbeat and all my morning sickness the likelihood of losing the baby was very slim (thank you, Lord!). It made me realize that I could be grateful, even for throwing up! Obviously, I still grumble when I continue to get sick (I mean, I AM in the 2nd trimester now!) but I continue to be thankful for this little life God has blessed us with and for making it to 14 weeks. I realize we will have much bigger battles to face with raising a child but I'm glad I can recognize God's grace in the midst of this little struggle of sickness, after all, it is His sufficient grace that has and will continue to carry me through much larger trials in life.
