Girls Night Out

Some girls from my new church invited me out to The Melting Pot yesterday.  My first time to experience fondue.  Yes, I know I am ten years behind the rest of the world...  No, I haven't been to a Tapas restaurant yet - I'm sure I'll do that next decade.  Anyway, it was a lot of fun!

We had an appetizer cheese dip, a salad (not dipped in anything sadly!), an entree of several meats dipped in sauce and a dessert of dipping sweet treats in chocolate.  Of course, we all wanted every course to include chocolate but everything, the cheese especially, was very good as well.

Beyond the yummy food though, was a very nice time to get to know some other girls from church better.  No one will ever be a substitute for my real sisters but it is important to have relationships with other Christian ladies as well.  And it was nice to have a time to talk about things other women are naturally more interested in than men are.

My husband is my best friend and my all-time favourite person to spend time with (sorry Liz and Es!) but tonight reminded me how much fun other girls can be too.  It is fun to hear about their kids, husbands, and lives.  And sometimes I want to talk about things that make my husband's eyes glaze over with boredom (like stories about people or relationships) but the ladies tonight were interested and responded with stories of their own!  I had forgotten how fun that can be!

If I have time for leisure I usually choose to spend it with my husband, kids or on more work (on a novel or screenplay or something) but it was genuinely enjoyable to go out with women I barely know and one just I met tonight (I am an introvert remember!) and share thoughts, opinions, struggles and worries.

Isn't it amazing how women can open up so much with each other when they hardly even know each other?  That is a blessing when it takes men decades to get to the same point with their friends!!!

Today I just want to thank God for other Christian women and (very sincerely) for being able to coat sweet treats in chocolate.  Doesn't my bio say I like chocolate?  It is about time I blogged about it!!
