Welcome! We are four sisters, four out of ten children who grew up in a bustling home filled with love. We are spread across the country now, and we meet here to reconnect and reminisce. We also share our (sometimes varied) thoughts on faith, family, food, and whatever else fits our fancy! You will see guest posts by other family members on occasion. We are so glad you can journey with us!

Gardening - Asparagus Success!
We planted our asparagus early. We dug holes in our red, clay soil, mixed in some black soil for good measure and watered faithfully. After a month of nothing happening we decided that we would rather use that space in our tiny garden for our tomato plants so we transplanted out tomatoes from their starter pots in the house and put them in the section where we had just dug up the dud asparagus and we put the asparagus into the started pots and put them in our front window.
The general plan was to water the asparagus if we thought about it but otherwise to not waste anymore time or thought about the dead asparagus crowns. We placed a spray bottle next to the plants and let the kids squirt (or sometimes drown) the poor little plants as they wanted to.
About a month ago a fern shoot came up in one of the plants! I was shocked. We had been out of town (and therefore hadn't watered it in a while) and when we came home the fern growth was about six inches or so high! We were thrilled. We had thought all six asparagus crowns completely hopeless but then this one started to grow something green. Very cool.
Then four days ago I looked at the pot (which I have started to water a little more faithfully now that there is a fern growth there!) and I saw four asparagus shoots about a half an inch tall growing. Wow! Now (in only 4 days remember) the tallest shoot is probably 8 or 9 inches high and getting bigger (taller but they are still very skinny - but I am too thrilled to care!) every day.
We need to transplant them into the ground but aren't sure where to put them as our garden is now completely planted and we hadn't bothered to save room for the then-dead-seeming asparagus.
I am amazed by the thrill I feel when I see the asparagus that is growing. To me it is so cool to know that what I had given up on God continued to faithfully keep it and nuture it (sometimes even using the poorly aimed squirts of a 2 year old!) and to allow it to produce despite its surroundings.
