Sisters chat about SUMMER

Esther:  Since today is June 1st I thought we'd talk about SUMMER. I don't know about you all but after memorial day and once school is out I don't need to wait till June 20th to feel like I am in summer
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of summer?

 Maude:  HEAT.

Esther:  I think of ice cream & drive-inns

 Maude:  Yuck.

 Lizzi:  Mowed grass, picnics, swimming,

Maude:  cool evenings with lightning bugs

Esther:  I know you're not a fan of summer Maude but lightning bugs is definitely a good thing about it!

 Maude:  yep.

Lizzi:  For sure! I wish we had them out here!

Maude:  There are some good things
Fresh fruit and vegetables
watermelons
corn on thecob
lemonade and sweet tea!

Esther:  What are some of your favorite memories of summer?
I LOVED going to the drive-inn as a kid (still do!)

Maude:  I loved being off from school and getting to read, read, read.

Lizzi:  Camping, when we did it
Family Week, of course

 Maude:  I liked gardening
Yes, definitely Family Week!
And church Youth Camps when I was a teenager

 Lizzi:  Going toCedar Point!

 Maude:  Playing "Olden Days"

 Lizzi:  Picking blackberries, playing outside
I still love picking berries!

Maude:  Pickin blackberries was NOT  favourite memory for me!  I always got eaten alive!!

 Lizzi:  haha!

Maude:  Even wearing flannel shirts and jeans - then I was hot and still got bitten plenty...

Lizzi:  Yeah, I tend to forget those aspects, I guess!

Esther:  Did you do anything special for memorial day?
We had a nice picnic at a nearby park. It was PACKED. I guess everyone does picnics for memorial day.

Maude:  Then you pop the berry in your mouth and feel the distinct crunch of a little black bug that looks just like a part of the berry and ALWAYS seemed to be on the ones I ate!
Yuck.
But it was neat to be a part of gathering food.  The feeling of accomplishment is nice

Lizzi:  We went up to Vancouver, BC (Canada) on Saturday. We love to go up and eat, eat, eat!!  Then, Monday was just a relaxing, family day with a park visit, picnic, etc.
Yeah, Memorial Day is alway busy at parks!!

Maude:  We went swimming (with a picnic lunch) at a nearby lake.  Then had grilled hamburgers at home for dinner.  Just kind of relaxing/hang-out time.

Esther:  That sounds really nice ladies!
What fun things do you plan to do this summer with your family?
We love going to the Zoo &  parks

Maude:  Go to a lot of fairs/festivals!  (My favourite thing!)  Go to a Civil War battle reenactment or two because I have never been.

Esther:  We have a friend who just moved and they now have a pool and want to have us over to swim so I guess will be doing that too!

Maude:  That's fun, Esther

Esther:  Definitely nice when it has already been in the 90's!

 Maude:  A necessity!

Lizzi:  We plan to have big boy in swim lessons (inside... it almost neverges warm eough here to swm outside!) and trying to do hikes. Also, my hubby may do the Seattle to Portland bike ride in July and if so we will all go down and spend a few days

 Esther:  That would be fun

Lizzi:  And,of course, LOTS of parks

Esther:  I want to do some more swim lessons with little man. We did "diaper dip" last year but he was so little I would like to get him into another swimming class

 Lizzi:  Ooh... zoo, too, essie!
Yeah, I think it will be good
I should probably do them too!

Maude:  "Diaper Dip" sounds a little gross, Es.

Esther:  it does, doesn't it?  haha
