Amazing audio books

I have been on a mystery kick. I do that sometimes. I have been known to just pick up my Sherlock Holmes collection and read story after story, day after day; or maybe it would be Agatha Christie's Miss Marple books.  I would just clunker down on the couch with a cup of tea perhaps and read for hours on end.  Unfortunately, it is not quite as easy for me to just pick up books and read them like I once could. But, there is this amazing invention called audio books, they have changed my life (and lives of all busy readers if you let them).
The problem with audio books is they can be rather expensive, however, Librivox is a FREE site where you can download audio books.  You will find more older books, classics, essays, ect.  Whatever your book taste though I think you will find something you like, even if it just be a good mystery. Everyone likes a good mystery, right? Of course!  Let me tell you about Red House by A. A. Milne (and yes I mean the same man who wrote Winnie the Pooh). I am pretty sure the same man who wrote about that lovable Pooh Bear has only written things that I will absolutely love; at least that is true of Red House.  Red house is a delightful mystery, full of intriguing yet lovable characters.  It is not a dark mystery, it is actually rather comic. I had a good deal of laughter along with suspense as I kept listening even when I needed to be doing something else.  It moved along at a nice pace and did not drag into unnecessary details.  The only quibble I have with this book is that you can easily find who the murderer is.  I did not find myself very surprised by the "twist", but that is impart because it is not so much a "whodunit?" as a "HOW?"  If you are looking for a book that will have you scared to sleep at night look elsewhere, this is a nice and "light" mystery (meaning, you will find it fun and not scary).
I really enjoyed listening to this book.  I think mysteries are great books to listen to, since they do not usually drag on like some other genres of books.  Now, I do tend to be somewhat particular about some things concerning audio books.  Some may call me a snob. Actually, my husband says I am a snob about all types of things, coffee, chocolate, apples, and well, the fact that I have my tea mugs and my coffee mugs and you cannot interchange them (gasp!) However, I think that is just sensible. (*As a side note my husband can be rather "snobbish" about things that he finds completely sensible that I just think silly).   Books that have a "male voice" telling the story should only have a female voice narrating on the audio version of the book, right? Of course right! That is not me being a snob just being sensible.  Now, I should tell you something about Librivox, it is wonderful (truly it is) but sometimes they have female voices that should be read by a male, as is the case with Red House unfortunately.  Librivox has volunteer readers so they cannot always have a man around to read (so sad). Anyways... I am perhaps a little snobbish because I could not quite bare to listen to a book in a females voice that should be read in a mans! I  found a "free" audio for a month free trial at www.audible.com That way I got to listen to a man read it! He did a great job. If you don't mind a women reading a mans part then Libivox is the way to go or just go to your library and pick up a hard copy or get a free kindle download.
