To Our Health

Our guest blogger today is Maude's husband.

If I may, I'd like to propose a toast.  A toast to our corporate health as a nation.  Cheers.

Wait.

What exactly did we just drink to?

If you have been listening to NARAL President Andrea Miller you might be laboring under the delusion that in some way contraception, birth-control pills, abortion-producing drugs and sterilization are integral facets of our national health.  Well, they are.  They have become our necessary placebos that delude us into thinking we've achieved some sort of sustainable level of fitness as a country.  The web has been on fire for the past few days with the Catholic church's refusal to comply with provisions in the new mandatory federal health care law requiring employers to cover services which may contradict one's conviction.  But we only allow conversations about Obamacare and separation-of-church-and-state to persist because we can't articulate the root causes of the illness which we know is out of step with the principles we claim to hold dear as a nation.

Pharmacuetical birth control destroys self-control.

NARAL, Planned Parenthood, NOW and President Obama contend that women who have unplanned children are a liability to the economy - our high cholesterol.  They want you to feel bad about not assisting in the prevention of unwanted children and they'll pump you full of extremely valid studies which show that such children are more prone to gang activity, crime, dropping out of school and drug use further increasing the public burden - our social spare tire.  Their solution frees women to contribute to the workforce and prevents children from being unwanted by preventing their existence in the first place.  Simple.  Binary.  Cold.  Weak.

Instead of doing the hard work required to get morally fit, they advocate for the "quick" fix - diet pills.  The time tested techniques of stressing your body through activity for sustained periods of time is disregarded.  It's a hard sell for politicians to tell someone that they are going to have to live with the consequences of their actions.  It's an even harder sell to promote the virtues which don't run toward the same flood of dissapations.  It is a small slice of the larger over-medication trend in America.

Okay, I've been talking around the issue and using metaphor, but for those of you who need it spelled out, here it is: by giving woman free/cheap access to birth control we allow both men and women to loosen the sexual restraint which is necessary for a civil society.  Promiscuity is directly proportional to disease.  The emotional damage from serial relationships (and I use that term very loosely) cannot be quantified it is so high.  We've normalized sexual deviancy for so long that the road back to moral health is going to take some serious work.  15 minutes of mall-walking and a few crunches isn't going to cut it.  Did you realize that as a nation we nearly removed prohibitions against bestiality and sodomy from the Uniform Code of Military Justice?  But just because we didn't eat the whole box of Twinkies in December doesn't alleviate our necessity for some serious circuit training.  Promoting chastity alone is like just doing bicep curls.  We'd get lopsided and no closer to balanced fitness.  We need to exercise all the virtues in concert.

Temperance.  Fortitude.  Prudence.  Justice.  Faith.  Hope.  Love.
Here's to your very good health.

The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.
