This weekend the O'Brien family has been focused on weddings as the youngest O'Brien got married on Saturday (only one more to go!). Over the years and the nine weddings we've had we've accumulated some wedding stories which we will be sharing this week on our blog posts.
Nearly every wedding has some bloopers but I think my oldest brother's wedding takes the cake (literally!).
First, while his lovely bride was walking down the aisle her long train caught on the poles that were holding burning candles and knocked it over. It would have fallen on her beautiful dress if the man sitting at the end of the pew hadn't caught the candle and saved the day! A flaming bride - almost!
Then during the reception, she asked myself and Katharine to cut her wedding cake for her guests. I was probably fifteen or a little younger and Katharine was thirteen. We cut the first several pieces and then needed to cut a part of the cake that was hard to reach. So we grabbed the bottom set of pillars holding the several tiered cake and turned... Oh my! Those pillars weren't attached to anything! We only succeeded in toppling the cake onto the floor!! So the cake was a heap of unappetizing mush on the floor - right in front of the already formed line to pick up their cake pieces. At least the bottom layer hadn't fallen. When some older ladies (immediately) relieved us of our duty and cut tiny little bite-sized pieces for everyone.
My sweet sister-in-law barely noticed, thankfully, she was too busy glowing and looking beautiful. She was definitely not a bridezilla - lucky for me and Katharine!
Do any of you have funny wedding stories to share?
