Germany: Oberammergau & Schwarzwald

I lived in Germany for a year several years back.  My husband was stationed there with the Army and I taught Business English with a language school there.  It was an absolutely wonderful experience!!!  I love traveling and experiencing different parts of the world and Germany is one of my favourite places.

The Schwarzwald, the Black Forest, is reknown for how thickly the trees grow together.  This was during the day in the Schwarzwald but because of the little amount of light the trees let through the camera thought it was night time.  The snow was about a foot deep and during our trek my husband's boots died and he could put his finger through the sole to scratch his foot - a bit of a wet walk for him!

This is a picture of a McDonald's in a building that has been around longer than the company!  You'd never see a Mickey D's in a building like that in the US!!

This is Koeffel, a mountain outside of Oberammergau in Germany.  The first time my husband climbed it was in the deepest part of winter (much deeper snow than this picture!) with snowshoes on.  He caused an avalanche but thankfully wasn't hurt!  The second time was with me.  No avalanche that time, very fun!

This is Oberammergau from the top of Koeffel.  Oberammergau is world reknown for their Passion Play dating back to the Middle Ages.  The town was dying of the Black Plague (or some other plague) and the mayor said they should praise God anyway by putting on a play about Christ's death and ressurection so the town did and the people stopped dying in that town.  They've been doing the play ever since.  (That is what I remember so the details may not be quite right but I know the outcome is...) feel free to visit their website:  http://www.passionplay-oberammergau.com/  I think that is a very cool story!

This is a picture of the sign leaving Garmisch (another town in the German Alps) close to Oberammergau.  The sign reads, "Gute Fahrt"  which means "Good Journey" but it does sort of make one blush, doesn't it?
