Snow Day!!!

As I have complained about before this has been a pathetic winter for me.  Virginia is hardly known for cold, snowy winters but the one day of half inch snow accumulation is particularly sad (it did snow a little more than that one other day while I was on the O'Brien mini-vacation and, of course, I missed it!).  I love winter and the snow so I've been a little down in the mouth about this state of mine these past few months.

So in the last few weeks of warming up weather I have made a concerted effort to get excited about spring.  We've started our tomato seeds inside and bought several other seeds (determined to have a better garden this year than our first attempt last year!).  We had a picnic at a park on Sunday with some friends (the day started warm, the afternoon was cool and the early evening had several of us wrapped up in blankets on some park benches!).  Then Sunday night my husband and I planned our garden - which is a little tricky because we have two long narrow plots that aren't very big at all.  Of course, I grew up with an enormous garden so my perspective might be a little skewed!

However, this Monday we woke up to the most beautiful snow!  The flakes were falling in large bunches so thick it looked like a snow globe.  It was absolutely gorgeous!!

My perfectly wonderful snow day went as follows:

I played in the snow with my little ones for about an hour and a half in the morning.  We made a snow man, snow angels, and rolled down the hill (Don't worry!  I didn't do it - I didn't want to smash my littlest one!).

We listened to Christmas music and watched some of "White Christmas."  We had soup for lunch.  At noon the snow stopped and the temperature rose to 45 degrees and started to melt.  Thankfully, the 5 1/2 inches or so was enough that we still had a few inches left when my husband got home.  (It was the longest day of work ever for him!  He just wanted to spend the day in the snow with the kids!)

When my husband came home he played out in the snow with the kids for about an hour. They had a lot of snowball fights, crawled around in the snow and destroyed the snowman (a snowball took him out and then Milton finished the job!).

After a warm dinner of New England Boil (which everyone gobbled up - I wasn't sure how the kids would like it but they loved it!) we all snuggled up to a roaring fire in the fireplace with some hot chocolate.

It was an absolutely perfect snow day!  (Good thing too because it is almost certainly our last!)  But I was so grateful to God that He blessed us with a truly lovely day of snow.

  2. It looks like you got a lot of snow, yay!! I'm glad you got it before the winter was over. We're just happy that spring seems to be here to stay (hoping so, at least!)
