an Anniversary alone

Monday was my second anniversary. It was also my second anniversary to spend alone. That is just the Army way. I would love to say that because that is just a fact about my life "being an Army wife" that somehow that would make being alone on my anniversary easier, but somehow it does not. In preparation of our anniversary I decided to go all out and have a mopesy, bluesly, sad day. First thing Monday, I packed Jude up and went to the Krispy Kreme shop down the street and bought a dozen hot doughnuts. I am pretty positive that hot krispy kreme doughnuts are going to be served to us in heaven because they have some kind of perfection going on. Have you ever had fresh, hot krispy kreme doughnuts?

It is rather unfortunate that I can walk to Krispy kreme from my home, because I do! After consuming 5 doughnuts in one sitting (yes I said 5) and feeling slightly like vomiting, our day kind of went on as normal (you can only be so sad when you have such a sweet child giving you amazing smiles every 5 seconds). While Jude was taking his first nap, I decided to read some old e-mails between Andrew and I (one of the positives of long distance relationships is so much is documented for you!)
I read old letters and e-mails, I looked at our wedding photos and was so glad we did what we wanted. We kept our wedding very simple, just immediate family, outside in my Mothers woods, it was perfect. As I allowed my heart to reminisce I found that instead of being overwhelmingly sad as I anticipated, I was thankful. I was not thankful to be alone on my anniversary but I am thankful that I had an anniversary to celebrate, I am thankful for my marriage, I am thankful for my husband. I am so glad I have a man worthy of missing so much. God blessed me with an amazing husband and so, I am thankful. I know we are across the world from each other but being apart allows you to see just how deep love runs and that is beautiful to see and experience.

  1. Your wedding was so pretty and sweet. I love that you had it in the woods behind Mom's house. I am sorry you were alone (besides that precious baby boy!) for your anniversary (again) but I hope and pray that this is the very last time that you are.
