Each Friday we will post a blog entry of the four of us talking about different things. We hope you enjoy getting to know us and see us interacting here.
Katharine: When you think of sisters, what comes to mind? (it can be specific or general, just whatever comes to mind)
Esther: A lot of conversations going at the same time.
Maude: Best friends.
Katharine: Those are good! Why do those things make you think of sisters?
Maude: Because sisters are around for your whole life and know all the ins and outs of your circumstances. I think it is easier to be friends with a sister than with anyone else.
Esther: well, my only experience with sisters is obviously my own and we are many (6 to be exact). We are loud, a little crazy and we like talking. So, it is just normal for there to be about 500 different conversations going at the same time
Katharine: I agree Maude. They know things about you no one else can so they can understand you on a different level, sometimes a much deeper level.
Esther: And they have to put up with you no matter what!
Maude: You have your whole growing up time to work out the ruffles of personality differences and have all your memories together.
Esther: They are stuck with you.
Katharine: I think of long conversations and tons of good food!
I love that we are stuck with each other :) !
Lizzi, are you there? What about you?
Lizzi: Sorry. I am here.
Katharine: No problem, we know it's lunchtime for you!
Lizzi: I love how much fun we have together.
Esther: Me too! If I had to be stuck with such sisters and best friends I am glad it is you all. :)
Maude: Sitting uncomfortably in the kitchen or dining room because you are too busy talking to move to the couches.
Lizzi: And that you can aso be silent and that's okay too.
Katharine: but RARELY are we silent!! lol
Lizzi: Haha
Maude: I do think God has particularly blessed us with each other (our other sisters too!)
Lizzi: That's true
Katharine: I agree!
It's fun to spend time together but sad to be so far apart...
Esther: But fun we can visit one another!
Katharine: Absolutely!
Maude: It's stinky. But chats are a good way to recreate our conversations since they are so discombobulated.
Katharine: hahaha
Katharine: Yep, it's the next best thing to our random converations. :)
If you had to pick just one, what is your favorite memory, involving your sisters?
Esther: hmmm
Maude: Playing Olden Days, especially when we took the little kids to the old railroad tracks behind the house to practice running away from bad guys.
Katharine: That was awesome!
Maude: I remember tossing Esther down that thorny ravine when the "bad guys" were coming.
Esther: Thanks for that!
Maude: It made you stronger!
Katharine: Wow, Es, it's amazing you turned out so well! :)
Esther: I know, right?
Katharine: With having such mean, older sisters...
Esther: For real!
Katharine: I loved our childhood, filled with playing, imagination, etc.
Lizzi: I loved singing together.
Esther: :)
Lizzi: And the plays we were in together.
Like Alice in Wonderland.
Katharine: The plays were so much fun!!
Maude: I loved doing the plays!
Esther: I loved Maude telling me and our brothers stories!
Katharine: Maude is the best story-teller!
Esther: She is indeed.
Maude: I loved telling you all stories too! Very fun! You had SO many questions!
Katharine: Maude, you need to write stories so I can read them to my kids.
I think my stories would bore them...
Maude: I've thought about writing bedtime stories because that is what my husband says too.
Esther: After you went away to College we recorded your stories so we could still hear them, remember?
Maude: Yep, sweet. Very sweet.
Katharine: I loved doing plays at home when we were little. Remember how we used the bunk beds as our stage? And mom and stuffed animals as our audience?
Maude: Remember when we would put up curtains in the Blue Room and have costume changes and props?
Katharine: Wow, this is reminding me of how much fun we had as kids!!
Esther: And how amazing Mom was to put up with all that. I hope I will be laid back like her and let my kids do that.
Maude: You will. It is so important.
Maude: We should probably explain that we didn't have TV for quite a while while we were kids
Katharine: lol! Yep, got the creative juices flowing.
Esther: Rolled the TV out of the closet to watch movies.
Maude: For football games really.
Katharine: Or so dad could watch baseball.
Maude: Hearing baseball on the radio still feels like summer to me!
Katharine: Me too!
Lizzi: Yup.
Katharine: I still have a love of baseball as a result.
Maude: I don't actually listen to the words but the sound just matches fireflies and fireworks to me.
Esther: I do have a soft spot for baseball.
Katharine: Love it!
Lizzi: Now that we're adults it is so fun to talk with my sisters on the phone. And I don't even like to talk on the phone!
Katharine: and on Skype!
Lizzi: Yeah!
Katharine: That's just kinda hysterical, actually... :)
Maude: My first intro to Dan Fogelberg was after a game went off, I was sitting on Dad's lap.
I still love Dan Fogelberg
Lizzi: :)
Katharine: That's so sweet, Maude.
Well, that's it for this week! Thanks for joining us for another sister conversation!!
