Natural Bridge

We recently visited the Natural Bridge in Virginia.  We had stopped once before but didn't want to spend $19/adult to see a rock formation.  This time, however, we decided to go ahead and check it out.

The Natural Bridge is much higher and bigger in real life than this picture makes it look.

We were pleasantly surprised.  It is much grander than one can tell from the pictures and several other things are included in the ticket price.  For example, there was a replica Monacan Village to see, caverns, a wax museum, etc.

Some fascinating history surrounds the bridge as well.  Thomas Jefferson bought the Natural Bridge for next to nothing (what would come out to $160 in our money today) because it was not farm-able, it wasn't worth much.  Even cooler is the carving of George Washington's name on the rocks.  He had surveyed the area when he was a youth and had climbed up and carved his name into the rocks.

If you are ever out near Lexington, Virginia I would whole-heartily recommend visiting the Natural Bridge.
